Witnessing Report

Part ONE – What were the circumstances surrounding your conversation with the unbelieving person when presented the gospel to him/her.
The circumstance surrounding my conversation with Brian when I shared the gospel with him where I involved in an outreach called “The 90 Day’s of Blessings” in Hartford, Connecticut. As part of a pray evangelism team from the “Connecticut House of Prayer”. We were to pray for people who would request prayer, as well as share the gospel with those who didn’t know about God.
Brian came into the prayer tent requesting prayer for healing because he had a headache. I started the conversation by introducing myself as “Kerri” and that I would be more than willing to pray that God would take away his headache but “before I pray I need to ask do you know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior?”

Part TWO – What was the reaction (questions/comments/statement) of the unbeliever?
Brian said that “no, I don’t know about Jesus, I don’t go to church.” I applied the techniques we have learned from Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort in “The Way of the Master” and “The Mirror of the 10 Commandments”. I took my Bible and turned to Exodus 20 allowing him to read the Ten Commandments with me, I then explained them to him in simple terms. I asked Brian, “have you ever taken anything from someone else without their permission?” “Yeah, I have.” “Have you ever told a lie?” “Yeah, I have.” I then explained to him that the Ten Commandment are the laws that God will judge us all by one day and that by his own confession he is a “liar” and a “thief” so if God where to judge right now he would be found guilty. I this used the courtroom analogy, “Brian if you where to stand before a judge in a court of law and you where found guilty of bringing a weapon to school and as your punishment he wanted you to pay a $20,000 fine would you be able to?” “No, that’s a lot of money.” “Well, what if a total stranger all of a sudden walked into that courtroom and said ‘I love Brian so much I am willing to pay this fine so that first, he doesn’t have to, and second, so that he can walk out of here totally free.” “Wow! That would be nice.” “Brian, over 2000 years ago Jesus did exactly that for you He came to the earth and died in our place taking away the punishment of sin. If you take the gift of salvation, you can be saved from the wrath of God’s judgment and at your trial Jesus will say ‘his debt is paid!” I then showed him John 3:16 and he was very receptive.

Part THREE - What did you do/say to the person in light of the persons reaction to your presentation of the Gospel?
Brian responded by making a profession of faith. I helped him to pray, repenting of his sins and asking Jesus to come into his life. I also gave him a tract with more information about salvation. He then asked me to write down the Scripture verses I had shared with him. Then I took his information letting him know that a member from the local church would follow up with him some more. I also prayed with him that God would heal his headache and then welcomed him to the family. An interesting side note is that at the same time I witnessed to Brian another member of our prayer team was witnessing to his mother and walking her through the steps towards salvation, followed by her making a profession of faith.
